Essential Oils for Pregnancy and Birthing
This is something that is very dear to my heart! I absolutely love pregnancy and bringing Life into the world and have had the privileged of being a part of 6 births aside from my own three! A couple of years back I was forwarded an email Full of testimonies on this topic and am going to thoroughly enjoy passing them along! I have separated the story’s with pictures to make it easier to figure where one stops and the next starts! The Last article is a list of pregnancy complications and symptoms and the oils that are good for each! I will say that I do not and will not endorse any essential oil without the Young Living brand on it! Young Living has gone to great lengths to preserve the integrity and purity of their oils and I trust their therapeutic grade and seed to seal promise! *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease.*
Having had the opportunity to study with [Drs.] Penoel, LaPraz, and the doctors at the Aromatic Medicine Congress in Grasse, France, I’ve
asked each one of them about contraindications with pregnancy…
Each one of these experts assured me that essential oils are safe for pregnant women, and that they would not hesitate to use any or all oils during pregnancy. I tell you this so that if a woman realizes that she’s pregnant, she won’t worry about the oils she used before she found out…
I believe that we may not know everything yet, and that we should always err on the side of caution. So my suggestion is that women not overdo the use of oils during pregnancy. Do I think they could
be harmful? No, I actually don’t… What I do believe is that if there was any complication of the pregnancy or childbirth, wouldn’t they always wonder whether it could have been the oils that caused the problem? It may be prudent to consider the lists that have been put together, and adhere to them, just to err on the side of caution.
Gary Young went back to the original study about using clary sage during pregnancy. They took pregnant rats, cut them open, and dropped clary sage oil, which had been stored in a refrigerator, into the uterus. The uterus contracted. From that, they determined that it’s not safe to use clary sage during pregnancy because it causes the uterus to contract. The study was published. People quoted it. They were then quoted, and so it goes, until everyone assumed that clary sage is not safe during pregnancy. It’s logical to assume that if cold water had been dropped into those rats’s uteruses, they would have contracted… The study may have been faulty, and now it’s gospel…
Additionally, for all you young women out there, Hanna Kroeger taught me 23 years ago to sip peach leaf tea for morning sickness, and it works so well, it’s like a switch has been turned, and it turns off morning sickness. Peach leaf tea is not as easy to find today, as it was then, so for those of you who have organic peach trees, please collect leaves, wash them, allow them to dry, and keep them on hand for the young women, coming behind us, who will have morning sickness… Also, it’s hard to stay hydrated during pregnancy -please make sure that those who are pregnant are drinking plenty of pure water…
Have a wonderful day,Vicki Opfer

My daughter had so much problems with her first baby in having contractions the whole 8 month. She would have lost the baby if it wasn’t for the two oils mentioned. Everytime they started, she would rub them on the lower tummy and back and soak in a hot tub of water and the contractions would stop. She even had to spend a whole month in the hosiptal before the baby was born.
Her second baby, they sewed the cervix shut but she still had contractions, and again she used the oils to keep from miscarrying. If this had happened it would have torn her cervix open to expel the baby. So we worked with Gentle Baby and Lavender every day to keep this from happening. Again the baby came at eight months along. Both babies arrived healthly but tiny.
Now we have two beautiful granddaughters, thanks to the oils.
My oldest daughter’s nurse told me that I needed to be in every delivery room to make delivery easy for every mother. Jodi had her babies from start to finish in 3 hours. She even slept between her contractions it was so easy. I sure wish I had the oils when I had my 3 children one breech (Not fun).
3 weeks before delivery she applied this formula to her perineum:
8 drops German
5 drops lavender
1 oz V-6
Then a week before delivery
8 drops geranium
5 drops lavender
5 drops fennel
1 oz V-6
Applying the same way. This softens and thins the membrane to prepare for birth.
Essentialzyme and Alkalime is also a great product to use for heartburn. It is almost a must when you can’t get rid of it alone with DiDize. Apply DiGize behind the ears, smell, and on tummy.
My last pregnancy I took Essentialzyme, Alkalime I took those two each morning AlkaLime 1/2 hour before meals. I took 2 Essentialzyme, after each meal. That took care of the morning sickness and heartburn. I also took Master Formula Hers each day for the vitamins needed.
Six weeks before delivery I started to take PN6-Dr. Jonh R. Christoper formula–Nature’s Way from the health food store.
Three weeks before delivery I mixed 8 drops of Geranium, 5 drops of lavender in 1 ounce V-6 massage oil and rubbed this on the perineum, 3 times a day.(This helps to soften the cervix and thin the membrane to get ready for delivery). One week before delivery I added 5 drops of fennel to the geranium and lavender in a new bottle using it the same way.
When I went into labor my mother (Dolly Young) and sister (Nancy Sanderson) applied Gentle Baby to the acupressure points on the ankles and hands. Because I had a history of hemorrhaging, my mother mixed a few drops of helichrysum to Gentle Baby and rubbed on my lower back whileI rubbed it on my pelvic area. She also rubbed it on my ankles. (Needless to say I never hemorrahaged).
I had very little discomfort through-out the delivery. Only the last two push pains were felt and my last baby arrived in 3 hours and 3 minutes from start to finish.
My fifth baby did not want to stay down in the birth channel, so my mother put GentleBaby on my little fingers and toes. While I held the inside and outside of the little fingers,my mother did the same to my little toes, and this kept the baby down until he delivered. This was done with each contraction.
HAULTING EARLY LABOR IN MID-FLIGHT
By Cherie Ross
Tuesday, May 28th – Northwest Flight #676
10:22 am Leave Minneapolis to Baltimore; settle in to take a nap for some much needed rest.
10:55 am Flight attendant comes on P.A. system, “Do we have a medical professional on board? We have a woman in labor!”
10:56 am I go inside prayerfully & ask “Is this mine to do”? I heard back, “…and you needed to ask?!”
10:57 am – I push the call button, tell the flight attendant: “I am not a medical professional; however, I am trained in the proper use of Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils, and they’ve been proven to stop early labor.”
She stated that there was a Nurse Practitioner with the woman and they’d come and get me if I was needed.
11:00 am I got reawakened with an abrupt tapping on my shoulder. It was the Head Flight Attendant: “We need you now!”
I gathered my oils & headed to the back of the plane, where I found a wonderful Nurse Practitioner doing her best. Not only was this woman in labor, she was vomiting & in extreme anxiety attack. The more the NP tried to talk to her & ask medical questions, the more escalated her anxiety became. I was in the seat behind them. The flight attendant whispered in my ear, “Can you do something?” I responded, “I believe I can.” Then the most peculiar thing happened. The flight attendant told the NP: “You’re out, she’s in” (meaning me, to take over). I quickly moved up to her seat, tried to talk to the pregnant woman, but no response. She was completely overwhelmed with anxiety, pain & terror. I grabbed Lavender, put a puddle in my hand, and rubbed it all over her low tummy. She was 7 months pregnant and often air pressure changes can induce labor. I held my hand on her low tummy and silently prayed. In less than 5 minutes, the woman opened her eyes very wide, looked at me and said, “It stopped.” I said: “What stopped?” She said “The pains and cramping. They stopped!” Then she asked, “Who are you and where did you come from?” I said, “I’m Cherie. I’m here to help you.”
Next was to get the nausea & vomiting to stop. I grabbed DiGize — another puddle in my hand, this time on the upper tummy. In less than 5 minutes again, the nausea and vomiting completely stopped. Now, on the anxiety attack: I brought out Peace & Calming, started at the solar plexus and moved upward. The closer I got to her nose, the more she resisted. So I just held the bottle between her rib area and allowed her to smell from there. In less than 7 minutes, she calmed down to the point of falling asleep. It was a very turbulent flight, which did not help at all. So I applied Lavender one more time in the remaining 90 minutes. I sat with her, softly talked to her words of comfort and reassurance.
When we landed in Baltimore, the EMTs boarded the plane and I moved so they could take over. They requested I stay close to her if she needed more oils. They safely removed her from the plane. I was the last passenger off the plane, (all my things had been moved to the rear). Upon leaving, the captain came out, took hold of my hand and said, “Thank you.” I said, “You’re welcome,” and started to leave. He would not let go of my hand, and said thank you again. My response “I was just doing my job, sir; Anyone would have done the same thing.”
Again, I tried to leave, but he still would not let go of my hand. I looked at him questioningly. His response, “You don’t have any idea what was going on before and during your intervention, do you?” “No,” I replied. He then proceeded to tell me, he was on the phone with a medical team on land. They determined to do an emergency landing with the plane and were in the process of looking for an airport that could take us. When I intervened, the flight attendant asked me in detail what I was doing/using. I thought she was just curious. I had no idea she was on the rear phone reporting to the captain, who in turn was reporting to the ground medical team. When we got results in less than 5 minutes with the oils, the medical team told the captain to wait,…continue on course, and see what happens. Because in less than 20 minutes the crisis situation completely turned around, the ground medical team instructed the captain to continue on to Baltimore. The captain said, “Do you have any idea how many lives were positively affected today by what you did?” If we would have had to emergency land this plane, people would have missed connecting flights, business meetings, appointments.” “And not only that,” the flight attendant spoke up, “the other passengers were getting visibly quite disturbed and upset. When you pulled out your oils and got to work, a sense of calmness was reestablished among all the passengers.”
I signed the necessary reports, got off the plane, and went to pick up my luggage. At the baggage claim area, many passengers came up and thanked me for handling the situation. Every day, without exception, I thank God for these Young Living Oils.

HALTING EARLY LABOR
Excerpts from Young LivingTM Essential Edge, Winter/Spring 2002
By Teri Williams
Teri and her husband realized they were coming to a crossroad in life. Although Lindsey earned a comfortable income, he was rarely home. When Teri learned she was pregnant with their third child, they realized that they simply didn’t have enough “family time.” They began praying for a home-based business that would take care of them financially and allow them to devote more of themselves to raising heir children.
Seven-and-a-half months into Teri’s pregnancy, she went into labor after an airplane flight. “Because we had used herbs for several years, they were the first place I turned for help,” says Teri, “but none of them worked. I called my midwife, and when I described to her what I was going through, she said I needed to get to a hospital right away. My midwife got into her car and started speeding toward my house, but we lived so far from a medical facility that she also wanted to call a helicopter service to come pick me up. I told her to wait for one minute before calling the helicopter. During that minute I prayed, asking the Lord to guide me to something in my home that would be powerful enough to stop my labor. The answer that came to me was ‘essential oil of Lavender,’ so my husband grabbed the YLEO bottle of Lavender and rubbed it all over my stomach, legs, and feet. Sixty seconds later, as my midwife was driving into our driveway, my labor stopped. Completely. My midwife was so shocked her mouth fell open.
“For the next five weeks I stayed in bed with 24-hour care. Every time I got up, my heavy labor started again. We kept using lavender until my baby’s due date. On that day, I put the oil away and delivered a big, beautiful, healthy baby boy after a 30-minute labor.”
At that point, Teri knew that there had to be some serious science behind the oils. She began researching then and discovered that there is a tremendous difference between most of the oils on the market and the therapeutic-grade oils offered by YLEO. “Typical oils would not have been powerful enough to help me during my pregnancy,” she says.
Teri started sharing the oils with friends and family members. She says she just could not keep quiet about the “wonderful treasures that had been provided to use for healing.” One day she went to the post office and discovered a “huge check. The was when I realized that if I could become a leader and treat my business as a business, I had a chance to help other mothers like myself who wanted to stay at home with their children but needed extra income.”
FROM TERI’S HUSBAND LINDSAY
Nearly three years ago, my wife Teri was pregnant with our third child. At 7 1/2 months into the pregnancy, we took an airplane flight, which; in hindsight was not a good idea. As the airplane reached altitude, Teri remarked that she felt horrible pressure on her stomach. Shortly after we landed and arrived home, she went into full labor…. much to soon for the safe birth of our son.
Our midwife was rushing over in the car, timing the contractions by cellular phone. Finally she said, “Teri will never make it; we must get her to the hospital as quickly as possible, she’s going to deliver any moment.” Teri asked me to grab the Essential Oil of Lavender and rub it all over her stomach, on the bottoms of her feet, and down her legs, which were shaking profusely by this time. Within three minutes of applying the lavender, Teri’s hard contractions completely stopped! When the midwife arrived, she was absolutely amazed. She had never seen anything like it.
Teri was on bed-rest for the next five weeks, but every time she got up to go the bathroom, she went back into labor. Everyday for five weeks we applied the lavender, and every day the contractions stopped.
On the due date of the birth, Teri got out of bed, put the lavender away, and within 45 minutes, our beautiful healthy little baby boy was born.
Now, as we raise our three children, we continue to find a multitude of uses for lavender, such as cuts, bruises, burns, headaches, insomnia and of course, muscle spasms. In addition, we began to study the chemical properties of the lavender plant in order to understand how this oil could be powerful enough to stop heavy contractions. We found that lavender contains a group of chemical compounds called esters, which characteristically are very calming and relaxing. We also found that historically lavender is known to be an antispasmodic, sedative, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antifungal, anti-infectious, cardio tonic, and anticoagulant. Needless to say, we keep a lot of lavender around at home. We purchase all of our essential oils from Young Living Essential Oils because we have found their oils all to be pure Grade A, therapeutic quality essential oils. We thank the good Lord for putting every herb-bearing plant on this earth that is necessary for man’s health and healing.

HELPING WITH LABOR
By Jessica Wild
January 14, 2003
One of my dear friends just had her sixth baby in Early December. She asked me to come and be her “oil girl” at the birth Kristen called at about 8:00 am and told me she was in labor. I drove around the corner to her house (literally) after I had grabbed all of my oils.
(Before I went over, I had knelt in prayer and asked for guidance, and that I would have knowledge beyond my own to help Kristen.)
She was in the shower when I got there, lying over my birth ball, with the hot water on her back…seemingly comfortable. After a few minutes, she felt the need to get out. She did, and was having some intense back labor, I asked her if she wanted oil, and she said yes. I felt that my first job was to get some oil diffusing…I offered her Grapefruit, Thieves, Lavender and Gentle Baby to smell and asked which one smelled the best to her. She chose Thieves. I then went to her diffuser and put in 20 drops of Thieves and diluted it with Lemon and Rosemary, to cut the nasal burn that could occur.
I then went to my oil bag and felt prompted to grab PanAway and Peppermint. I put about five drops of each in my hand and rubbed them low on Kristen’s back. Two contractions later, she commented that the back labor was lessened. The MW checked and told her that the baby was no longer posterior…which was the reason her back hurt less. (MY belief is that the coolness of the oils helped the baby want to turn.)
I then felt prompted to rub Valor on her feet. She loved that, her contractions became more bearable and she was able to relax THOROUGHLY between them. I then grabbed my olive oil/lavender bottle (an 8 oz. bottle with about 100 drops of Lavender in it.) and massaged her calves to help her stay relaxed and calm. We would stop during contractions, but as soon as she was through one contraction, she would ask for more calf massage. I think it really helped her relax.
The MW checked her at about 9:00, and she was only 6 or 7 cm dilated. She was discouraged. I felt an overwhelming prompting that NOW was the time for Clary Sage, so asked her if she wanted me to use it, and explained to her that it might speed up labor…Was she okay with that? She said that speeding up the labor sounded GREAT!
I rubbed about four drops of Clary Sage on the inside of each ankle, and within a few minutes, she was back to having to REALLY focus during contractions. Her water broke about ten minutes after we put Clary Sage on her ankles.
After her water broke, she was complete, and ready to push. She chose to push on her bed, lying over the birth ball. I had the peppermint bottle open, as she was struggling with nausea. She smelled it between every contraction, and eventually, it smelled good enough that she wanted a drop on her tongue.
Brock was born at 10:31 that morning…two hours after I got there! He weighed 8 pounds 8 ounces and was the calmest baby I have ever seen.
We rubbed the same diluted Lavender on him before we got him dressed.
After Kristen delivered the placenta, she got up to go to the bathroom, and asked for a drop of Fennell oil, to help her with her milk production. (I hadn’t thought of that, DUH! *grin*) I dropped about three drops on her tongue, and she finished off her water…
That’s it…kind of anti climatic, I know. It was the most natural birth I have ever seen! No one stressed, no one worried that she couldn’t do it…just calm, support of a laboring and birthing woman.
Just wanted to share!

Date: Thu, 4 Jul 2002
Brace yourselves, this one is cool! (to a young mother at least! *grin*)
I had one of those “now no one can tell me that EOs don’t work” experiences, and just had to share.
Please note, this might be long, and there will be reference to prayer, so read on knowing that! *grin*
One of my college roommates had a baby (her fifth) the Friday of convention. (that makes her two weeks old tomorrow, kind of important to know that.)
On Friday of last week, she came into town (she lives in a small town an hour away from here,) to have her “well baby” visit.
*Note* This is not a natural woman. She and I are really like oil and water when it comes to…well almost everything. We are, amazingly, the best of friends despite our vast differences, so she patiently puts up with my ‘radical ramblings.’ We share religions and both are very spiritual. (I was supposed to act as doula for her at the birth, but she allowed the Dr. to induce her under the contrived thought that she has fast labors and she lives an hour away from the hospital…*sigh*)
Rebekah (the baby) was horribly jaundiced at this one-week visit. Her billirubin level was 21.6.
The Dr. told Kris (the mom) that brain damage occurs at 25 and that she would have to leave her baby at the hospital. They then told her that while they had room for the baby, that there was not room for her to stay, and that she would have to leave her baby. She adamantly refused, reminding them that she was breastfeeding, and told them that there must be another way.
The hospital staff finally relented and agreed that if she would stay in town, that they would loan her a billirubin light and blanket. She took it and went immediately to her sister’s house a few miles from the hospital and plugged it in to see if it would help.
She called me in a panic. I went over with my Peace & Calming and my White Angelica. I am out of Trauma Life, or would have taken that too. I got there and listened while she cried and stressed over her new angel. (I put Peace & Calming on before I walked in, under the thought that she might not let me put any of the oils ON her, so at least she could smell it. I was right.) She refused all offers of oils because they might make Rebekah not want to nurse. I didn’t argue.
She asked me for advice, and I said that what I would do would be to pray and ask Heavenly Father to tell her what to do to help Rebekah, and reminded her that as a mother, she is ENTITLED to Devine guidance, because they are HIS children too.
She thanked me and said that just talking had made her much calmer, and that she felt better (Peace & Calming, anyone? *grin*).
The next morning, Rebekah’s billiruben count had climbed to 22, despite staying in the blanket except while nursing. Kris commented that she was looking sicker.
I asked if she had prayed and she said ‘yes, but nothing is coming.’ I told her to listen, and accept the answer, even if it was confusing to her.
(She had felt for a few days that Rebekah needed a chiropractic adjustment, but her Dr REFUSED to allow it, so now she was desperate.)
My phone rang at 10:30 that night. Kris said: “I have an embarrassing question to ask.” I said, “Shoot!”
After hemming and hawing for a minute and me assuring her that we had gone thru enough together that I would not be offended at whatever it was…*smile* she finally asked:
“Do you know what an enema is?”
I about died laughing! I said. “Of course I know what an enema is, my whole family uses them when we are sick!”
“Oh, then you know how to give one?”
“To a baby?”
“Of course!” I said.
Quiet on the line…”Well, that is my answer and I have no idea what to do.”
I then told her how to give a baby an enema with a nasal aspiration bulb and she asked if I would come over after church the next day and help her if she didn’t have the courage to do it that night. I said, “Of course!”
After church, (I broke the Sabbath, but it was a case of “ox in a mire” in my opinion) I went to a drug store and got the best enema bag I could find and headed over (with every oil I have and my EODR in hand…and a prayer in my heart that she would let me use them).
I got there and she started gushing…”I did it, and she felt better, I could tell! She was so patient, and felt such relief, I am so glad I did it!”
I asked her what Rebakah’s poop had looked like and she told me it was still meconium (sp?). AT TEN DAYS OLD!!!
My babies are pooping mustard like, breast milk poop at 48 hours old at the most! We talked about it and she agreed that her others had cleared their meconium a lot sooner, and that this might be ‘part of the problem’.
I asked if she wanted me to help her do another enema and she agreed. I then asked if she cared if I used some EO on Rebekah, and she (much to my surprise) said “Sure, if you think it will help.”
I was so happy! I suggested that we start with a prayer so that we would have guidance and know what to do to help she and Rebekah get home sooner. We did.
I rubbed Peace & Calming all over both of us moms first. *grin*
I put Valor on Rebekah’s feet and then opened my Lavender. I rubbed Lavender on her head and down the bridge of her nose (I had no idea why, it just felt right.) By the time I could get the cap back on my Lavender, Rebekah’s eyes were FLOWING yellow goop. (I mean flowing, like tears!)
Kris said, “Wait, this is making her sick, it is bothering her eyes.” I said “NO!!! That is the billirubin! Look!”
And sure enough, it was…just yellow gunk, pouring out the closest outlet it could. It ran for a few minutes (while Rebekah laid there totally content and cooing, by the way) then slowed down. I suggested we do another enema to see if that would help.
We got our distilled water warm and I put a few drops of Endo Flex (I was out of Juva Flex, and EF was recommended in the EODR) in the water. We sucked up the oil and did another baby enema. She was still passing almost straight meconium. While she worked the water out, I rubbed a few drops of Frankincense down her spine then added some Cedarwood. I then did a raindrop technique-like motion with the feathering and pulling away from the spine. (Super gently, no one attack me!)
We then put Release on her liver and Lavender all over her belly (two or three drops of each).
We put Endo Flex on her feet and Rosemary on her back.
When we took that diaper off, she had urinated so much that the whole diaper was almost orange! The billirubin was just FLOWING out of this tiny body!
We did one more enema and that one almost looked green instead of like black tar.
I asked her what oils she wanted to keep, and she chose Rosemary and Endo Flex and Lavender. She rubbed them on Rebekah all evening and whenever she woke to nurse.
Okay, really long story…but the next morning, Kris took Rebekah to the Dr. to check her levels and they were down to 15! He told her that if she stabilized there, that she could go home the next day.
On Tuesday morning, her levels were DOWN again, (to 14) and she got to go home on Tuesday!
Kris is now a devoted EO user (at least for jaundice! *grin).
Thanks for reading; it is so good to know that I can share here!

Subject: testimonial–fennel oil
Okay, let me preface this with…I know I shouldn’t be taking oils I don’t need, but I wanted to test this one! *grin*
I have a friend who just had a baby and has not been able to make enough breast milk for him. I have been providing her with raw goats milk from our goats to supplement. She received a recommendation to try fennel oil to boost milk production.
She got the oil and had been applying it to her chest for a few days. She had seen an increase and was thrilled.
I went over to visit and we were discussing fennel oil. I decided to try it. I put a few drops of it in my glass of water and slammed the water. (I don’t especially like the taste of fennel.)
Now, please keep in mind that I have been breast-feeding for the past six months, (this time…this is my third baby in three years.) and am also donating milk to a milk bank. I have a very well established milk supply. I haven’t had “too much ” since my baby was a few days old.
The morning after taking that fennel oil, I woke up totally ENGORGED. Like, brand new baby, engorged. Quite literally spraying milk!
I was floored! Three drops of oil did that? So, I waited a few days and did it again. Same exact reaction.
I will never meet a new mother without recommending fennel oil to help with breastfeeding!

by Anthony Stewart
“Did you happen to bring the Myrrh?” I asked Sarah as we headed to Tennessee with our two children, Caleb and Joseph. “Got it right here!” answered Sarah. We also had with us our unborn baby who was about 36 weeks along, and who happened to be turned breech. (This means that the buttocks or a foot would be born first rather than the head.)
We had been planning all along to have the baby at home, as we had with our two previous children. However, the baby being breech gave us some concern, since certain complications can arise during childbirth with a breech that probably would not happen with a vertex baby.
We had been trying for about a week to turn the baby by using the slant board technique. This is where the mother tilts an ironing board at about a 45 angle and lies down with her head toward the floor. Often times the baby will automatically flip around after the mother has lain like this for ten or fifteen minutes. We did this three times a day and also tried playing baroque music with headphones at the area of the abdomen where we wanted the baby’s head to be. We prayed. We even talked to the baby trying to convince it to turn on its own. All the while we were applying Myrrh to Sarah’s abdomen two or three drops at a time.
After about a week the baby still had not turned. We had been in contact with Ina May Gaskin, a midwife who lives on The Farm, a community near Summertown, Tennessee. Ina May is author of the classic book entitled Spiritual Midwifery. She is, perhaps, the most experienced person in the country in successfully dealing with breech babies. Thus, on an early Monday morning, September 17, 2001, we were headed to The Farm, about six and a half hours from where we live, to have Ina May do an external version which is manually turning the baby head down.
When we arrived, Ina May felt around on Sarah’s tummy and confirmed that the baby was definitely still breech. Ina May wanted Sarah to be able to relax completely while she was doing the version and not be worried about kids running around. So we brought Caleb and Joseph to one of the guesthouses where they laid down for a nap. Sarah then went to Ina May’s house.
Before doing the version, Ina May wanted to do an internal exam just to be 100% sure and to assess exactly how the baby was lying in the breech position. l’ll be back in a little while, she told Sarah. I need to leave for a few minutes to get a sterile glove from the clinic.
Meanwhile, Sarah made herself comfortable at Ina Mays home. She took the myrrh she had brought and proceeded to douse herself with the oil. She used much more than usual, and rubbed it all over her tummy. She then lay down and went to sleep a very deep sleep. When Ina May returned, she decided not to disturb Sarah and let her sleep until she woke up on her own about an hour to an hour-and-a-half later.
When Sarah awoke Ina May proceeded with the internal exam. Feeling slowly and carefully, she looked up suddenly and said: “I think this feels like a head down here! “The baby had apparently turned on its own sometime during Sarah’s deep sleep only moments before Ina May would have done the external version! Ina May then felt around on Sarah’s abdomen and could easily identify the baby’s little butt near Sarah’s ribs and the head down low just like it was supposed to be.
It was both a miracle and a relief that the baby turned on its own. We had been trying for some time to get the baby to do this, but without success. Then, only moments before the midwife was going to step in, and shortly after Sarah had applied a generous amount of myrrh, the baby decided to turn.
Did the myrrh assist in the baby’s turning? We do know that myrrh was a popular oil used by pregnant and laboring women for many centuries during Biblical times. It was even one of the two oils brought to Mary and the Christ Child by the wise men. For this reason alone, I believe it to be a very important oil for women to have during pregnancy and birth.
The key is that we prayed and followed what we were led to do and we felt guided to apply myrrh which seemed to be just the thing for this very sweet and very stubborn breech baby.
Two weeks after this turn of events, on the morning of October 18, 2001, a tornado swept through our county. As the winds howled and the rains poured down, our Perfect, healthy nine-pound baby boy, Thomas, was born safely in our home. He was fully alert (Apgar 10), born into the loving presence of his parents, his brothers, and his grandparents. Today, March 2003, Thomas is a robust toddler who walks, is just starting to talk, and whose stubbornness and will, manifested while still in the womb, still shows itself daily.
To this day, more than a year later, the scent of Myrrh always brings up the memory in my mind of Sarah’s pregnancy and birth of our son, Thomas. It probably will for as long as I live.

During my fourth pregnancy, I had some bleeding issues at about 32 weeks. Maren the baby, was annoying the placenta and I was bleeding because of it. At the time, I really struggled with what to do to help her move away so it could heal. I finally settled on Peppermint oil!
Earlier in the pregnancy, she would engage her head in my cervix SO much that I could not walk for the sciatic pain…and I would rub peppermint LOW
on my belly, and she’d move up enough for me to be comfortable. So I did it again when I needed her to move away from the placenta. Again…worked
GREAT, BUT, she turned FRANK BREACH instead of just moving a bit. So, I have had a baby head in my LIVER *grin* for about five weeks, let me tell you, quite uncomfortable! *laughing*
Last night, I decided to communicate with her again that it was time to move BACK to head down, so we can get this show on the ROAD *grin* and decided once again to use peppermint oil. I put it all over the top of my belly, and went to bed. Let me clarify for you that there was NO DOUBT that she was breach. Her HEAD was in my stomach…hard as a ROCK! This morning, at my doctors’ appointment, she is once again head down, engaged. ALL BECAUSE OF PEPPERMINT OIL!! What a blessing these oils are! Just wanted to share!

Wow alas the 8th Downer baby made an appearance this morning at 7:25 am. 4:44 water broke I was wakened from my sleep to a loud pop.
Decided to go back to sleep, but by 5 called hubby at work and said this is it!
He found a replacement and was home by 6 am, Midwife arrived at 6:30 am.
I at this point had my 8 year old rub Gentle Baby and Helichrysum on my Lower back and I rubbed it on my lower tummy.
Dad rubbed Brain power and Clarity on my big toes and Grounding on my feet.
I had previously put Peace and calming on my wrists and Joy on my heart.
I then began my mixture of Eniva Cal-mag and Ningxia Red Juice. and rubbed Wintergreen and Neutralizing Gel on my lower tummy for pain. This really made my contraction totally tolerable. In fact I had to tell the midwife when I was contracting and she was oh that’s not so bad. Finally when I gagged she said transition and I told everyone I really need to have the baby. I went to my office and sat down on the delivery chair. My hubby was going to video our wonderful oily birth but………. one push and out came Ruth LaVerna.
ZZZOOOOMMM!!!!! Daddy caught her in midair and I set to laughing from all the excitement. I was doing good, then I delivered the placenta and I began to feel a little weak, faint and I lay on the floor, my midwife rubbed Brain Power on my big toe and I quickly gained my composure. I then headed to the bath. A huge relaxing BUBBLE bath, heavenly!!!! I have rested all day off and on, had 3 drops of Fennel under my tongue and a capsule of Basil for after pains. To say the least I am doing really good. Good luck to all who choose oils in their birth. This time I used to basic principles of the properties of the oils but followed my intuition to use what my body called for, not step by step from the desk reference.

No Stretch Marks and Perineal Tear
My daughter just had a bouncing baby boy 2 weeks ago. We used the oils all thru her pregnancy and she felt great. She had a 9lb 3oz baby and her tummy got huge! She used Gentle Baby mixed with V-6 on her tummy and got no stretch marks even getting as big as she did! She tore terribly with the delivery of her first baby (also 9lbs). This time she used Geranium and Lavender for 3 weeks prior to delivery on her perineum and only tore a tiny bit. We used the oils in the hospital when she needed to relax (I used Roman chamomile, Lavender, and Geranium mixed together) and all the nurses thought the room smelled wonderful as well as making my daughter relax enough to focus. We used Valor on the baby one hour after he was born. We have used Di-Gize (diluted) on him for gas and tummy distress with wonderful results, and have used Forgiveness on his big brother’s ears when he gets his nose bent out of shape because of the baby getting more attention from mom than him. I just wish I had the oils when I had my babies. Life would have been so much easier!…
Sincerely, Pat Foth

Dealing with sadness after birth I have a story to share with you. I know a woman who seemed to be very sad after each of her children were born – to the point that the county agencies actually stepped in and helped her with them for a
little while after they were born.
Then, after the birth of her third child, she was fortunate to have the help of Martha Oakes, who specializes in post-partum care. When the young mother began to feel very sad, Martha called me, and then came over, and I gave her small bottles of Valor, Harmony, Joy, and White Angelica to give as a gift to the young mother.
She put a drop of Valor on one wrist, and then, held the other wrist to it. She put a single drop of Harmony, over the solar plexus (just above
the belly button). She put a single drop of Joy over the heart.
And she put a drop of White Angelica in one hand, rubbed the other hand to it, and brushed it over her head, face, shoulders, chest, etc… all the way down the body, right over the clothes – almost as
if she was brushing on an angelic shield.
I’m grateful to tell you that the county agencies didn’t feel the need to help her with this baby, and she’s had two babies since then, without the help of the county agencies – and with the help of the
So this protocol is wonderful for uplifting the spirits, and giving all of us a new outlook on life. If I’m having a crummy day, if I can remember to put it on, my mood changes right away.
Thanks for asking – it’s one of my very favorite protocols – I share it at every single introductory lecture I teach…

I wanted to have the ‘Jesus birth’ after hearing Dr. Young describe how he delivered Jacob, his first son with Mary, using Frankincense and Myrhh.
During my pregnancy, I swallowed Lemon oil by capsule (10 drops in a capsule once a day) for Urinary Tract infections and I swallowed
Peppermint oil by capsule (same regimen, but peppermint in morning and lemon at night) for Group Beta Strep..
We had bought the Essence of the Season kit to have on hand for the birth. We enjoyed the oils and resins so much that we had to buy another kit. We
put a tea little candle in the bottom of a tin cup, covered the rim with foil creating a shallow well, placed about two teaspoons of water in the well and
crushed up a resin rock of frankincense in the water. We just kept adding water as it evaporated down. The smell in the house was so earthy and
comforting. We all felt so mellow. Since the Essential Oils Desk Reference
lists Frankincense for depression, we decided to use it burning over the tin cup during the birth. Everyone in the room (husband, midwife and nurse) was calm during the labor.
This would be the first recorded essential oil pregnancy and birth in Arkansas. Many midwives were eager to attend.
About an hour before I anticipated delivering, since the contractions were about 2-3 minutes apart, I went to the bathroom and applied Myrrh oil on
my perineum for elasticity.
I had back labor as well as abdominal labor so I was kneeling on the floor with my upper body leaning across the foot of the bed. When the back labor
became too unbearable, I generously dotted the bottle of Frankincense to my lower back. The next contraction was amazing! I deeply inhaled the
aroma still left on my hands and felt a higher spiritual focus I’ve never experienced before. I don’t have the vocabulary to express it. The pain was
SO minimal that I generously dotted it to my abdomen as well. At this point we moved on top of the bed. This was my six birth and I’ve never been able to deliver in bed!
We instructed the midwife to call in the older kids to witness the birth when the baby was crowing. When she did call in the kids, I didn’t believe
her because my cervix didn’t have the intense stinging feeling right at the end of labor like it had with my other deliveries. This was the signal I was
looking for that would indicate to me that ‘this is almost over’.
This is the first pregnancy in which I didn’t require a petocin shot to help my uterus clamp and contract back down after delivery. I didn’t hemorrhage
this time either. For the next few days, I dotted Frankincense on the painful areas each time contractions occurred. The desk reference lists
Frankincense to help clot blood, which is why I did this.
A few minutes after our daughter was born, my husband anointed her entire body with frankincense and smoothed it in. We applied one drop of Myrrh
to her cord daily and it dried up the next day and separated from the belly button. By day five it had fallen off.
My midwife visited me the morning after the birth. She was amazed at the oils and couldn’t believe how dried up the baby’s cord looked. She asked me
what I felt during the transition of labor when I applied frankincense. I repeated this conversation I had with my ten year old son:
Son, ‘Mom, how come you never screamed?’
(To back up here…we had prepared the children with activities for a long day of awaiting the time of crowning when they would be allowed in to
witness the birth of their youngest sister. They were told that I would be all right and that the loud sounds I would make were normal for a large baby
coming out of a small hole in my body. They knew to listen for moaning, then louder moaning, and it would only be another 20 minutes or less before
they would get to come in when I began screaming.). So back to our
Mom, ‘What do you mean?’
Son, ‘You said we would get to come in when you were screaming. You
Never screamed.’ I thought, ‘Yep. I never did. My cervix never stung. I never
felt more than a 7 on a pain scale of 1-10. THAT FRANKINCENSE IS
So I wonder. Did Jesus’ mother, Mary, feel this higher level of spiritual
focus too? Did she feel minimal pain too? Did her birth attendants feel calm
I now tell everyone to get pregnant again just to experience the ‘Jesus
birth’ with frankincense and myrrh. My midwife was so amazed that she
has purchased these oils to have on hand and other mothers have experienced this too.
First of all, thank you to Heavenly Father for Dr. Gary Young and thanks to
the person(s) who began this website for us.

Someone else wrote…
I was very lucky to have experienced a healthy pregnancy. So when my waters broke it was all stations go with an intense 5 hour labour. A few days before I had written a list in order of progession what oils to apply where and at what stage during the labour. I gave this to my mum (my second birth partner) to follow. Here’s how it went:
As soon as we got to the birth centre mum put Peace and Calming into the electric oil diffuser which calmed us all almost instantly. I used Emergency Essence (Australian Bush Flower Remedy) for oral pain relief and calming. I changed the glass dropper to a plastic one for safer bite ability.
I was in the bath for a lot of the time so we put 1 drop of frankincense (you can surely use more than that, add to some salt or milk as an emulsifier) into the bath to help the perineum to soften. When I had the urge to push, I only needed to push seven times before she came out in one swoop.
We immediately annointed the babys’ head with Frankincense and once the chord stopped pulsing it was cut and we applied Myrrh to what was still attached to our little girl. This was applied daily to the base of the attached chord until day 4 when it fell off.
I was helped out of the bath and I lay down the deliver the placenta, then my mum did vita flex with valor on my feet to possibly help with the trauma my spine went through and applied peace and calming on my shoulders and heart in the hope of relaxing me and our new baby when I cuddled her up on my shoulder.
I suffered no stitches or tearing, breast feeding was a dream, no back pain and I went for my first run when she was about 8 weeks old.
My daughter is a happy, healthy child who really only cries when it’s time to sleep (or when she doesn’t get her own way).
I was so fortunate to be introduced to these oils by my best friend and I will do exactly the same as above for my next birth God willing except I may add a few more things in since reading this fabulous website.

A Birth Story…
Someone asked about which oils to use during pregnancy. Any oil you want. Mylast two children (number 11 and 12) were 4 years apart. I was 43 when the12th was born. I had a lot of problems but I am grateful for the oils that helped me through them. I used Prenolone+ for morning sickness and migraines.
I used Harmony blend for headaches. I used Mineral Essence for potassium and legcramps and heart flutters. I used K & B for kidney stones and infections. Idid a coloncleanse and liver cleanse with the Cleansing Trio and JuvaTone and Juva flex. (From past experiences with colic I knew that cleansing the colon and liver
would give me a baby without colic.) I used Melrose and Royaldolphilus foryeast infections. I used Peace and Calming and Gentle baby to calm my nerves. Iused Clove for general aches and pains. I used Super Cal and Super B forstress, and general well being. I used Thryomin to support my pituitary andthyroid. I usedNutmeg and Endoflex to support my adrenals. I have low estrogen and have ahard time going into to labor. I wish I had known about taking Clary sagehourly at the end of the nine months to help my body dilate and go into laborbetter.
I had a bleeding placenta throughout the pregnancy so I opted to do this one
in the hospital. I took Peace & Calming, Gentle baby, cayenne pepper,
helichrysum and trauma life and peppermint with me. The doctors from allaround would came in and smelt the oils and asked me what they were for. It wasgreat fun. I did hemorrhage since I had placenta abrupto. Here is a funnystory. My husband saw the gush of blood, he pushed the doctor aside, grabbedice, threwit on my abdomen. Quickly gave me cayenne and Helichrysum and Trauma lifeby mouth, and threw a blanket on me so I wouldn’t go into shock. He was sofast with this that the doctor was still reeling backwards from being pushedaside. By the time she had gathered her bearings and had rushed back to mewhile the nurse was preparing some sort of shot to give me, the bleeding hadstopped. She was shocked and asked my husband what he had done. He was red inthe face, apologized and said that he had been so up on what to do in case ofemergency that he had gone into auto pilot. Then he told her all thetreatments he had given me! She said she had never seen a hemorrhage stop soquickly. Later in my hospital room, I couldn’t urinate. So I told the nurse. She said she would be right back. She came back with peppermint oil and pouredit in the toilet. She said that would work. So I sat down and the fumes openedthe bladder and it did work! So since the baby needed to void before being released, I put a drop of peppermint oil in her diaper and wa-la, we went homethe next day! I hope that helps you. If it scares you take Valor and Traumalife. Not all pregnancies are as bad as mine!

…I did not have Essential Oils for most of my children, but I
have had 12 (latest at age 42), and I’ve been using Essential Oils
since I was pregnant with the next to the last. Proper, Living
nutrition is a big key to a healthy pregnancy (and Life in general). I
did go into my pregnancies that way, so I really didn’t have any
“problems” that I needed EOs “healing” for. But here’s a few I used or
have used to help others through some things.
Lemon in pure water – first thing in the morning every day – pg or not,
as a detox helper.
If prone to nausea, body needs to detox. Peppermint – for the nausea,
morning sickness, heartburn – the smell of meat cooking would make me
nauseus, drinking processed (frozen concentrate) orange juice would
give me heartburn.
Joy or Peace and Calming for hormonal mood swings. Probably most
important for you now, to calm your heart feelings, and give your baby
a positive accepting mom. Maybe Acceptance would be good, too.
Gentle Baby on perineum, for elasticity for the birth – also good on
tummy if your skin isn’t very elastic and is prone to stretch marks.
Valor – if any back problems from increasing tummy.
PanAway or Ortho Sport for aching muscles.
Aroma Life – varicose veins.
3 1/2 week past EDC used “Dragon Time” (didn’t have straight Clary
Sage) to help prime labor. Used it early evening, labor was well on
its way by 10:30.
Have a great pregnancy and a happy, healthy baby,

My wife Terry and I are expecting our first child together and I am so
thankful for the oils. Tender Tush is an absolutely fabulous product! Terry
has been rubbing this on daily and has NO STRETCH MARKS!! She has 2 monthsleft in the pregnancy. Everyone she works with are amazed! We also diffuseGentle Baby for 15 minutes every hour throughout the evening. She has a veryrestful night… the baby stops kicking long enough for her to get her neededsleep. And though Terry does get swollen feet from being on her feet allday… we found that Tangerine taken internally in a capsule (10 drops) andCypress for circulation help her… by morning the swollenness is gone!
I have also been using Frankincense on her tummy each day… just rub it in.
Can’t wait for this baby to be born… we are having the baby at home with a
midwife… we are all prepared with our Gentle Baby and I plan to rub
Frankincense & Myrrh on the umbilical cord, on the baby and on Terry
Further update… in 2 months!!
For any women planning to have another baby… use the oils!
Jay & Terry Kruizenga… and baby.

Pregnancy, Labor & Childbirth Support
I diffused Peppermint oil to counter the general nausea, Gentle Baby and Peaceand Calming on mommy’s feet and forehead (also on daddy’s ears and forehead),Evergreen Essence for muscle spasms (in the legs and shoulders), and “Laboroil” on the ankles, lower stomach, and lower back. You would only use the”labor oil” after labor has started.
The recipe is:
4 drops YL Helichrysum (I used white fir)
4 drops YL Fennel
2 drops YL Peppermint
5 drops YL Ylang ylang
3 drops YL Clary sage
1 ounce V6 or Massage oil base
The combination of oils and massage brought this mommy’s usual labor time from10-12 hours down to 5 hours. She also had no pain meds and had a completelynatural birth, whereas in the past she has always required an epidural andc-section. The peace and calmness in the delivery room was truly amazing.
Oh, don’t forget the Frankincense and Myrrh for after the birth.
Have a wonderful time!

I also, used this “labor oil blend” on my daughter in-law 1 month ago. She had a beautiful home birth. She used Geranium oil, undiluted, on herperineum directly following the birth and for several days afterwards, as didmy other daughter in-law 1 1/2 years ago. It is wonderful in speeding up healing to the area and greatly reducing pain. They could both sit with almost no discomfort the next day. They also used Clary Sage on the tummy forthe cramping those first few days after the births. Neither used anything butthe oils, before, during, or after the births. Also used oils on the babies.

My Daughter Jessica is almost nine months pregnant, just one week away from her due date. Last week the baby was still in a breach position and her doctor was recommending a C-Section as the possible solution. I had saved and printed your message, “oils and childbirth” from 5/24/06, and we were using some of the oils that Gary Young used with his wife’s pregnancy, Myrrh and Lavender, 3 drops with V-6 Mixing Oil, and I also felt the urge to include Gentle Baby so we added that also. This combination also is helping the stretch marks as well, and the V-6 mixing oil is such a wonderful healing for the skin, as I have found with my complexion.
I remembered another message posted here about Gary Young using Myrhh in Ecuador to turn a breach child and deliver it safely, so we tried increasing the Myrrh and applying it more often. Within 12 hours we could see and feel that the baby was rotating. My daughter went to bed in the evening and she felt alot of strong movement from the baby, and the next morning when she woke up I could see that the baby was verticle again, but we didn’t know if the baby had returned to the breach position or if it had indeed moved down into the birth position. My daughter had an ultrasound scheduled for that morning in order for the doctor to see what was going on with the baby’s breach position, but when they did the ultrasound they could see that the baby had indeed moved into the correct birth position!!!!!! YES!!!!
Now we are focusing on using the oils for labor and pain management so I ordered the oils regarding that from the “oils and childbirth” message that Gary Young used to help his wife’s labor pain, Vetiver and Valerian, and also Clary Sage with Peppermint which Gary used to bring on his wife’s delivery after she was dilated to 5 cm. We are also going to use the Trauma LIfe and Frankincense to anointed the baby as Gary did. I feel confident that we are prepared for the delivery by having these miraculous oils, but I am also going to take my entire box of oils with me to the hospital birthing room so that I can have all of these oils available to us as we pray for guidance during the labor and delivery.
I also researched essential oil testimonials on the testimonials website
(www.oil-testimonials.com <http://www.oil-testimonials.com> ) and found that a women wrote regarding using Frankincense for her pain and labor contractions and in her own words: FRANKINSENCE
IS SOOOOO AMAZING!!!” She also diffused Frankincense and reported that “everyone in the room was calm during the labor”. Another woman wrote that she diffused ‘Peace and Calming’ with the same results.
My daughter had a miscarriage 2 years ago so my upline recommended that she used YL Progesterone cream during the first 4 months to assure maintainance of the pregnancy, since it is a lack of sufficient Progesterone during this time that often causes miscarriage. My daughter had been previously diagnosed with estrogen dominance and pre-menopausal, so it made sense to use the Progesterone. Of course we have no way of knowing for certain if this is why she was able to continue this pregnancy, but since this is safe to use we felt that it was “better safe than sorry”.(Note from Hasso: I recommend my clients to first do a Saliva Hormone Test before taking any dermal or sublingual precursor hormones).
Unfortunately her miscarriage was so extremely painful that she now has fears of the upcoming labor pain, including the fact that throughout her pregnancy she has been told multiple “horror stories” regarding labor and delivery. However, I am always reminding her that none of these women had the essential oils to help them!!! Also her pain was greatly increased by the synthetic hormone that they gave her at the hospital to expel the placenta, however the placenta did not completely expel anyway. The doctor gave her 24 hours to expel the remaining placental tissue and if not, he was planning to scrape the tissue out the next day. The doctor told us that he hoped not to have to do that since this procedure can cause damage to the uterus and possibly interfere with future pregnancy. I prayed for guidance as to which oil to use to accomplish this and felt that Di-Gize would make this happen although I had never read anywhere of using this oil for this purpose. The beauty of using the oils is that you can try one and if it doesn’t accomplish the purpose, you can just go on to the next oil until you get the results you need. However, while I was contemplating which oil to try next, within an hour my daughter was in the bathroom expelling the placental tissue. So she applied Di-Gize again, and had another expulsion. We continued to apply it just to make certain that no tissue remained, but she did not have any further reactions. When she returned to the doctor the next day, his examination showed no placental tissue remaining in the uterus. He was certain that he was going to have to scrape it out manually, but it was all gone!!!
I also ordered a video from Amazon.com called, “Gentle Birth Choices” which helped my daughter to be more confident about the benefits of natural birthing versus “standard medical procedure”. Since these women on this video were able to deliver without any pain medications, my daughter now believes that it is actually possible to accomplish this, especially since these women did not even have the wonderful benefits of the oils. This video also convinced us of the benefits of having the assistance of a doula or midwife so we found a team of 2 women who work together to be with her and support her needs during the labor and delivery. These women have offered their services free of charge since they are still in their training program. This saved us the normal $600.00 fee which is actually a bargain price for the guidance and assistance that doulas offer, but since we are limited financially this helped us to be able to purchase all of the oils. I highly recommend the “Gentle Birth Choices” video. At 29.95 it was worth every dime, just as doulas and midwifes and YOUNG LIVING ESSENTIAL OILS are worth every dime!!!
I am hoping that using the oils during the labor and delivery will also become a positive experience and further education for natural birthing procedures for the two doulas who will be present and assisting. Imagine the blessing of these oils that these women could share with others who are dedicated to natural birthing!!!!
